Pakistani actor-model Veena Malik lashed out at a Muslim cleric during a live discussion on a Lahore-based TV channel last Saturday. “What is your problem with me?” asked Malik angrily, addressing the cleric who accused her of insulting Islam by getting cosy with Bollywood actor Ashmit Patel on the
Bigg Boss show on Colors. The unusual outburst, punctuated by tears from Malik, has become one of the most watched clips on You Tube.
While some slam her for behaving like a “porn star,” others say she was brave for standing up to the Pakistani clerical establishment, especially when such an act can mean personal danger. Malik, 26, says, “I didn’t wear revealing clothes or kiss Ashmit. And which contestant saw us making love? If they are so confident, let them come forward. Bigg Boss would give night tasks to us intentionally, because they wanted something to happen between us. But I know my limits.”
Malik, who is now back home in Lahore, is burdened with fatwas and court cases. She says the show producers engaged in “negative propaganda” on purpose, when it came to her. “On their website, they wrote that I am 32, where as I am 26. I had even given my passport to them. They told Salman Khan that I am a bookie. When I met him after the show, he was shocked to know that I had exposed match-fixing, and he asked me why they told him that,” she rues.
Malik adds, “When I was giving Ashmit a massage, they slow-motioned my pout. Did they want to show that I was horny? They showed me doing puja with Ashmit but they didn’t show him offering namaz with me.”
Ashmit Patel, who was seen getting intimate with her on screen says she visits him often but he has “no feelings for her”. “How could Ashmit say that I go to his house when I have been there only once for five minutes? And how could he say I’m not his type when we’re just friends?” lashes out Malik.
