Dance India Dance finalists fight for victory

After a four-month run, reality show Dance India Dance (DID) Season 3 will chose its winner in an energetic finale this Saturday. Vying for the coveted prize of Rs. 3 lakhs, a Maruti Ertiga LUV car and a two-year contract with Zee TV, are top five finalists — Sanam Johar, Mohena Kumari Singh, Rajasmita Kar, Raghav ‘Crockroaz’ Juyal and Pradeep Gurung. While casting their votes during the live telecast of the finale, viewers will be regaled with exciting performances. Terence Lewis will do a Jim Morrison act, while Geeta Kapoor will make a grand entry on a huge crown and Remo D’Souza will do a hard-hitting hip hop-freestyle act to the song Zara dil ko tham lo. The cast of Tezz, Ajay Devgn and Anil Kapoor will crown the winner.

Meet the finalists in the fray.
Mohena, 23
A princess of Rewa, she broke the rules when she joined Terence Lewis’ dance academy. Specialising in Bollywood dance for six years, she earlier participated in two DID seasons as a backup dancer.
Finale Act: Dancing to Man Mohini with a huge venetian mask.
Greatest High: Getting the MJ band from Remo for the Jesus Christ act.
Lowest moment: When our team member, Vaibhav, was eliminated.
What’s next?: I’ll continue my journey in dance.
Who will win?: Either I will, or Sanam.

Raghav, 20
Famous for his stage name Crockroaz, this Dehradun boy’s slow motion dance style had viewers applauding. He wants the world to ape his dance style and create new dance forms.
Finale Act: I’m dancing with my crew in my style to Chamak challo and Tenu main love, and will teach the audience how to do a slow motion dance!
Greatest High: Returning via a wild card.
Lowest moment: None. I always look at the silver lining.
What’s next?: Zee’s Li’l Masters as a choreographer.
Who will win?: Either I will or Pradeep.

Pradeep, 24
Though he has no formal training, this dance teacher from Guwahati left home vowing to prove his mettle. He didn’t make it in DID’s first season, but just kept trying. Now, he’s one of the finalists.
Finale Act: Freestyle and parkour routine with 40 kids doing a shaolin dance.
Greatest High: Doing a headstand with Akshay Kumar.
Lowest moment: The negative comments for my first contemporary solo.
What’s next?: A dance class for street kids.
Who will win?: I will, or Rajasmita.

Rajasmita, 20
Excelling in hip hop, the lass from Bhubaneshwar has many creative pursuits, such as painting, singing, clay modelling and designer embroidery. Hailing from a modest background, she has been dancing since childhood.
Finale Act: 24 dancers doing an aerial act, hanging above the audiences.
Greatest High: The love and care I got from judge Geeta Maa.
Lowest moment: When Shafir, a fellow contestant, was eliminated.
What’s next?: I plan to open a dance institute back home.
Who will win?: I will, or Sanam.

Sanam, 20
He has a passion for modern contemporary dance and has trained in ballet. This Delhi boy participated in DID for his mother, who wanted to see him on TV. He is studying for physics honours, though science comes second to dance.
Finale Act: A mirror ball act replete with free style and contemporary dance moves.
Greatest High: Getting Mithunda’s grand salutes.
Lowest moment: Pulling a hamstring and a rib fracture.
What’s next?: Choreography.
Who will win?: I will, or Mohena.
