While Bollywood personalities often come out in support of their own fraternity, rarely do they find the time to cheer for talent they spot on television. However, the young participants of Indian Idol Junior seem to have become the exceptions to that rule.
Over the last few weeks, these singers (between the age of 5 and 15) have been receiving praise from all quarters, including applause from actors Salman Khan
and Farhan Akhtar. But on June 30, the kids received the biggest honour in the form of a few words of praise from Lata Mangeshkar. The veteran singer posted a message on Twitter, praising the young singers and even requested the show’s makers to pick five winners in this edition, instead of one.
Mangeshkar tweeted, “Namaskar. Mai’n indian idol junior dekh rahi hu,aur sab bacche ek se badhkar ek gaa rahe hai’n ,khas taur pe Anmol bohot hi samajh ke gaata hai .aise karyakram mein sirf ek ladka ya ladki ka first aana aur bakiyo'n ko mauka nahi milna ye bohot afsos ki baat hai, mai’n indian idol junior team ko request karna chahti hu ki top five ko award rakhiye
… (sic)” (I am watching Indian Idol Junior and every child is performing brilliantly, especially Anmol. He sings with a lot of thought. It’ll be disheartening to see only one boy or girl win this show and the rest not get the opportunity. I request the Indian Idol Junior team to select five singers as the winners this time).
On June 14, Salman had tweeted, saying, “indian idol junior, 13 year old Akash was superb . Soooo happy fr him n his father . (sic)”.
A few days later, Farhan also praised them in a tweet: “What a treat the Indian Idol juniors are... Pure talent. So lucky to have heard them live. Best wishes to them all. (sic)”
Singer Shaan, designer Masaba, director Sujoy Ghosh, cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle, producer Siddhartha Basu are some other names who have also rooted for these singers in the recent past.
