Participating in reality shows is a big leg-up for actors and minor celebrities. The winners grab eyeballs, gain fans and get flooded with offers for films or other shows. Dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa has been such a platform for actors to showcase their twinkle toes and TV actor Gurmeet Choudhary is enjoying his victory and looking forward to the stardom.

The TV star was declared the winner of season five on Sunday night. Currently putting everything aside to enjoy his victory, he says, “I’m thrilled. I gave it my best shot. For me, even getting praised by the judges (Karan Johar, Madhuri Dixit and Remo D’Souza) was a victory in itself.”

Like past winners, Gurmeet too is being flooded with Bollywood offers. “It’s been my dream to act in movies, so I will definitely consider the offers. But right now, I’m too busy celebrating,” he says. “It’s too early to talk about these things. I’d like to say something only when it’s confirmed.”

The finale saw intense competition between Gurmeet and the other finalists — Rashami Desai and Rithvik Dhanjani. Sridevi, who is currently promoting her comeback film English Vinglish, was present too, and she even shook a leg with Madhuri. For Gurmeet, meeting his favourite actors was a dream come true. “I’ve had a crush on Madhuri for many years. For the show, I even got to enact a romantic scene with her. There couldn’t have been anything better,” he says.

Past seasons of Jhalak… have seen lots of controversies and link-ups. Most famous among them have been the alleged romantic liaisons of actors Pooja Bedi and Karan Singh Grover with their respective choreographers. Did Gurmeet or his wife Debina have to deal with this pressure? “Not at all,” says Gurmeet with a laugh. “My wife is from the same field, so she understands. She has a gruelling schedule for her daily soap, but even then, she would stay up with me while I rehearsed. My friends actually call me ‘patnivrata’ (dedicated to his wife)!”
