What do Welcome, Na Bole Tum Naa Meine Kuch Kaha - Season 2, Sanskar, Amita Ka Amit, Tota Weds Maina and Hum Aapke Hai In-Laws have in common? It’s their launch date: January 14.
Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha
This isn’t a super-auspicious date or even a coincidence. As you may have noticed, over the years, new shows
seem to make their appearance across channels all around the same time.
Why do different channels launch new shows at the same time? Well, channels need to keep tabs on their competition. Not only for TRPs, but to ensure that they catch your attention and woo you. When new shows launch across all channels at once, it gives every one of them a fighting chance to hook you. We all have favourite shows, but when these go off air, we surf channels to find other shows that will hopefully become new favourites. If there are many new shows on air at the same time, you will surf till you find the one you like.
This isn’t the first time that new shows across channels are being launched at the same time. It happened last November when Veera, Junoon, Anamika, Khamoshiyan, Durga, Shaitaan and 2612 premiered.
Shows also tend to be launched either before or after the IPL period for two reasons. One: cricket, in our country, is also seen as entertainment. And two: during the IPL, advertising revenue tends to be diverted there.
If launching shows all together wasn’t enough, channels also keep tabs on the content that their rivals air. From who is casting whom, to which track will air next month, to what shows are being developed, they keep an eye on everything that is going on with their rivals. Which how they manage this seemingly orchestrated plan of launching new shows together, even if they aren’t always gunning for the same time slot.
