Mythological or historical shows might be finding favour with audiences, but their makers have faced public ire when they felt the show didn’t do justice to a character or the plot. But Dr BK Modi, producer of the new show, Buddha, isn’t worried at all.

Modi says controversies are not new for him. “My companies bring in new technologies and I have dealt with controversies (in that field). I have returned to India after 14 years, and I was missing the controversies. That’s the fun of being in India and that’s why we love India,” he quips.

Talking about his show and support it has received from Buddhist groups, he says, “In the last 30 years, I have been involved with many religious and political bodies — nationally and globally — which is why I produced this show. We know what we are doing and have no fear or worries as we have the full support of various organisations — Buddhist and Hindus. I was the president of Mahabodhi Society of India, and the chairman of Vishwa Hindu Parishad. I am the president of yet another body, which is an inter-faith Indian council of leaders.”

Modi had started to make Buddha in a film format, but later felt that television would be a better medium to showcase his life. The show will narrate the story of prince Siddhartha and his journey towards enlightenment.
