A Buddhism lantern is displayed to celebrate the upcoming birthday of Buddha in front of Seoul's City Hall in South Korea.
Online social groups, discussions and campaigns are a routine affair, but ever heard of an online yagya? As a first-of-its-kind initiative, a mahayagya is being held from today to October 25, on Facebook, to promote world peace and harmony. Titled, Let’s Chant Gayatri Movement, the aim is to ask
people to join the initiative by chanting the Gayatri Mantra offline.
“In today’s world, everyone is busy in their own lives. The youth is not concerned about the society and there’s a lot of negativity all around. This is where the Gayatri Mantra can help. It brings you mental peace by flushing out bad thoughts from your mind. I’m certain that the chants we achieve through the yagya will infuse positive vibrations in this confused world,” says the organiser, Pravesh Jain, a businessman and social worker.
The exact number of mantra chants will be decided by the number of participants and a virtual diary will be maintained. The target is 21 crore chants. “The idea is to educate people to meditate. We don’t want to encourage superstition,” says Jain.
But why an online yagya? “This way we can reach the entire world without wasting a penny on arrangements. Also, this medium will ensure maximum participation from the youth. Over 7,000 people have confirmed to chant, a major percentage of which are youngsters,” he says.
