To promote their film, the Special 26 team — actors Akshay Kumar, Kajal Aggarwal and Anupam Kher, along with director Neeraj Pandey — visited HT House recently. The cast, especially Akshay, seemed happy to be back in Delhi as they shot parts of the film in the city. “We shot in Connaught Place, Miranda House, Jama Masjid, and the Safdarjung area,” said Neeraj. Was it difficult getting permission to shoot? “Permissions are easy, shooting isn’t. Once Akshay comes on the set, a big crowd comes to see him... But we managed. We shot Akshay’s introduction in CP. For another scene, we created the CBI headquarters in the Miranda House canteen,” he said.

A true Delhiite at heart, Akshay said he keeps coming to the Capital every one or two months. “I visit Chandni Chowk a lot. I love it, be it the Fawara or the Parathewali Gali. I also go to the Gurudwara,” he said. Isn’t he worried about attracting huge crowds on such public visits? “I just put a handkerchief on my face, and no one notices. Though I was almost caught one time at Golden Temple. I heard a guy say: ‘Woh Akshay Kumar lag raha hai’ but his friend said ‘abey nahi yaar.’ So I got saved,” said Akshay, who in the film, plays a conman who conducts raids posing as an official. “I’ve played a con-artist before, par iss baar bahot mazaa aya kyunki yeh real kahani hai,” said the actor, who even sang two lines of the song, Mujh Mein Tu.
The film has a very 80’s feel to it. “Every detail had to be taken care of, like the models of cars, and that people in the background shouldn’t have mobile phones etc. We even recreated Paalika as it was in the 80s,” said Anupam, who about working with Akshay, said: “I’ve done many films with Akshay, but in this film, we spent a lot more time together,” he added.
About her experience of working in the film, Kajal said: “It was wonderful. I learnt a lot from Anupam ji. And, Akshay is a major power house. He jokes a lot. He played a prank on me on our way here. He called me posing as a journalist and I gave him one-page long answers without realising it was him,” she recalled.
