Last year, most bidders at the Indian Premier League player auction turned up in colourful team jerseys or casual tees, but Sunday morning saw team owners sport some serious corporate style.

At the bidding for the sixth season of the Twenty20 cricket championship, while actor Preity
Zinta, co-owner of Kings XI Punjab, wore a  black jacket over a coral-coloured top, Nita Ambani, owner of Mumbai Indians, was seen sporting a jet black coat with broad nerd glasses.
Shilpa
Owners of Rajasthan Royals, actor Shilpa Shetty and hubby Raj Kundra too, maintained a black formal dress code.

“Black is the top corporate colour, and the auctions are a corporate event, so probably that’s the reason they all chose the shade,” says designer Nikhil Mehra of Shantanu & Nikhil. “IPL has come under criticism for being a glamorous Bollywood show rather than serious sports. The owners probably want to break that notion and show the world that it’s serious business for them,” says designer Jenjum Gadi. Agrees Anand Kabra: “Black indicates power. It’s an intimidating shade ... kind of conveys, ‘hey, I’m not to be dismissed’.”

The tweets went on...
