You would expect anyone invited to the Grammys to dress dapper, but Australian singer and songwriter, Gotye is all set to land up on the big night sporting a beard and is happy that people may not recognise him at all. The artist has three nominations to this credit this year. “Not that my exit of a limo tends to prompt that from teenage music fans — it tends to be reserved for the Taylor Swifts of the world but I’m sporting quite a beard at the moment, so it’s probably less likely that people will recognise who the hell I am, which is great,” says Gotye, who recently performed in Delhi as part of the Oz fest. This is going to be his first appearance at the Grammys and the Somebody I Used To Know artist is excited about it. “I am excited about going. I’ve only watched it once — last year on television, so I’m pretty unfamiliar but I figure it’s going to be pretty big. I don’t really like that aspect of hundreds of cameras constantly on you, and just random screaming,” he says.

Talking about his India connect, Gotye says that he has watched a few Bollywood movies and heard late music maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar. “Ravi Shankar I’ve definitely heard of and heard some of his music. I’ve watched a few Bollywood films, so I know some Bollywood music. Otherwise it’s just elements like the sitar or the tabla incorporated with other instruments,” he says. He shares he is always finding new inspirations and at the moment, his inspiration is Norway-based musician Ane Brun. “I’m finding records constantly that quickly become my favourites of all time,” he adds.
