Celebrated Kuchipudi dancer couple Raja and Radha Reddy’s daughter Bhavana has gone beyond dance and imbibed singing skills as well. A prolific dancer herself, she will perform her debut gig at the 55th annual Grammys after-party on Sunday night. “My band and I feel very blessed to have this good
start to my musical career and we are determined to make our loved ones proud,” she tells us from Los Angeles.

Having left Delhi last year to pursue a course in Vocals Western Contemporary music at the Musicians Institute in LA, Bhavana’s five-member band is called Avant Garde. They play indie rock with jazz influence.

Bhavana says their big debut opportunity is a case of sheer luck. “I was surfing the net to find a way to get to the party. So, I sent an e-mail to the contact information I found stating that I’m an upcoming musician wanting to attend the party,” says Bhavana, adding, “Next thing I know he (the concerned person) sends me a message saying, ‘I heard your song, it is beautiful and I would like you to perform, call me’. In my head, I’m thinking it’s not possible, may be he wants me to perform at another event. But turns out it was this one.”

Her set list for the gig will be six of her songs from her upcoming EP, Tangled In Emotion and a cover of Fiona Apple’s Criminal.
