Organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Earth Hour asks people across the world to switch off lights and other electrical appliances for 60 minutes (8.30 pm to 9.30 pm) on March 23. We talk to actors from Bollywood and the TV industry, to find out how they plan to conserve energy and spread awareness.

Ranbir Kapoor
Since childhood, my parents have always instilled the importance of energy conservation in me. It involves very simple things like switching off lights when leaving a room, and using energy-conserving bulbs.

Imran Khan
I have always promoted conservation of resources, and have made every effort to practise it in my own life. I will be turning off my electrical devices in support of Earth Hour, and I really hope others will too.

Esha Gupta
I switch off lights every time I go out. And when I know I’ll be out for months, I turn off my refrigerator as well. I request people to use lights only in the rooms they are using. During festivals, light diyas and candles as opposed to electrical fittings.

Ayushmann Khurrana
We can always do little things, which will make a lot of difference, like using energy-saving bulbs, star-rated ACs, refrigerators and other appliances.

Varun Dhawan
Events like Earth Hour are very important. We tend to forget that this planet is not only made for human beings but also other living beings. We as human beings need to realise how our actions are causing others trouble.

Sushant Singh Rajput
Use energy-efficient electrical appliances; they use two to 10 times less electricity for the same functionality and are of superior quality, so they last longer.  Not only will they save energy, but also be lighter on your pocket. Plan candlelight dinners with your loved ones, and kill two birds with one stone!

Mouli Ganguly
Why only Earth Hour? Aren’t we supposed to conserve energy all year round?

Hiten Tejwani
I think it’s important to encourage the use of solar energy to its maximum capacity. It should be made mandatory for every society to use solar energy and invest in rainwater harvesting.

Rohit Roy
My little four-year-old understands the importance of  switching off lights when she leaves a room. It’s these little things that go a long way in conservation. A simple quote comes to mind: ‘Jo mera hai woh tera hai, jo tera hai woh mera’ (What’s mine is yours, what’s yours is mine). Let’s help each other save Earth.

Anoop Soni
To make the future easy and smooth for our coming generations, saving energy is extremely important. Switch off all electrical appliances. Don’t charge your iPads and cell phones overnight.
