what happened: Seventeen people fell ill after gas leaked at a water works unit of the Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan.
what it means: Chlorine gas leaked from a cylinder, which was thrown into water to neutralise it. Many people who were sleeping at that time were rushed to hospital after they complained of difficulty in breathing.
what next: The managing director of the Jan Sansthan said an inquiry is being conducted into the gas leak.
