Human resource (HR) management is a distinctive approach to managing people and their aspirations in an organisation. It is a process of procuring, allocating, and effectively utilising human capital to create a balance between a company’s long-term business perspective and developing a talent pool with the right set of skills. As organisations work towards improving employee engagement and retention, managing employees’ aspirations has become vital within HR management. Some of the emerging practices in HR include understanding employee aspirations, moulding them based on their unique backgrounds and helping them manage their goals to best accomplish their career objectives. An HR manager acts as a facilitator to achieve high performance in the given work environment.

The payoff
Entry-level HR professionals from premier institutes may earn between Rs. 6 lakh - Rs. 12 lakh a year. A mid-level professional may earn between Rs. 18 lakh - Rs. 35 lakh a year. Senior professionals may earn between Rs. 40 lakh - Rs. 1 crore a year

Getting there
People from various fields can become successful HR managers. Courses in psychology, human behaviour, labour laws, and MBA (HR) would give a more balanced perspective while dealing with people. Some background education in the industry you work in will give you that extra edge
