Labour unrest has hit the industry in 2012, the Economic Survey for 2012-13 said. Till October last year, the number of strikes recorded across the industrial sectors was 173 compared with 106 strikes recorded in 2011, the lowest in over five years.

The lockouts of industrial units in the first ten months of 2012 were 21 from 29 in 2011, provisional figures of the state of the economy report show.

Wages and allowances, bonus, personnel, indiscipline and violence and financial stringency are stated as major reasons for these strikes and lockouts.

The year 2012 witnessed some violent industrial troubles like at the Maruti-Suzuki plant at Manesar, which led to killing of a senior manager and subsequent lockout of the plant for a month.
