The BJP has taken a calculated risk in including former Gujarat minister Amit Shah in the new team that would spearhead its campaign in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

Despite being accused in three murder cases, Shah, an aide of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, has been made a party general secretary.

But the former minister stands to be arrested in case he loses the battle against the CBI in the Supreme Court.

A key accused in the murder of Tulsiram Prajapati -- which took place in 2006 -- Shah has challenged the CBI chargesheet against him.

The hearing is over and in case of a negative verdict, he can be arrested. Prajapati was the eyewitness to the murders of gangster Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kauser Bi in 2005. Shah is an accused in the twin murders as well.

In case Shah is arrested, the BJP plans to project it as a case of Congress misusing the CBI to target its political opponents.

“It will be projected to show that Shah is being targeted following his elevation as general secretary,” said a party leader.
