The Indian economy shall tide over the adverse effects of the global meltdown, a Andhra Pradesh government official has said.

“India has adequate resilience and its potentialities are intact,” state agriculuture department principal secretary S Chellappa said on Saturday during a conference on ‘Incubating Agripreneurship´ at the Indian Tobacco Association Hall in Guntur.

Attributing the US economic distress to the Iraq war, Chellappa said, “The war ate into the vitals of the US economy”. Advising the country’s farmers against using chemical fertilisers and pesticides in crops, the secretary said that western countries were “allergic” to the presence of these chemicals. “The food produces that contain these chemical residues are summarily rejected,” he said adding chillies and mangoes from Andhra Pradesh had become victims of such a rejection.
