The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) alleged the Centre has adopted 'delaying tactics' in bringing a permanent solution to the 'decades-old' Chakma and Hajong refugee issue. A delegation of the union yesterday called on Chief Minister Jarbon Gamlin to air their
reservations about the Centre's stand and Gamlin then promised to seriously pursue the matter with New Delhi, an AAPSU statement said here on Wednesday.

The team, led by union President Takam Tatung and General Secretary Tujum Poyom, apprised Gamlin of the letter issued by the Director (NE-II) of the Union Home Ministry J P N Singh.

The union leaders while briefing the CM on the content of the letter, alleged that the high power committee under the Chairmanship of Joint Secretary (NE), Union Home Ministry, constituted to examine various issues relating to settlement of Chakma and Hajong in Arunachal Pradesh, was busy in 'delaying tactics.'

"We have received so many letters from the Home Ministry which only promises about future meeting. But never finalise a particular date," the union leaders claimed.

Almost one year has elapsed since constitution of the committee but no concrete steps had yet been taken by the Home Ministry which is only dithering on the issue, the union leaders said.

The union leaders would be visiting New Delhi to seek an audience with the President and Central leaders on the Chakma and Hajong issues.
