One Indian is missing in a luxury cruiser that ran aground off the Tuscan coast in Italy while 201 crew members from the country have been rescued, government officials said in New Delhi on Monday.

The missing crew member, Robello Russel Terence, was working as a waiter.  "We are
making efforts to trace him. His brother Kevin has reached Italy," external affairs minister SM Krishna said.

India has set up control rooms in New Delhi and Rome to facilitate information about the rescue operations and Krishna has directed the Indian ambassador to Italy, Debabrata Saha to coordinate the rescue operations.

The incident, which happened on Saturday, left six persons dead after the ship hit a reef or rock near the Tuscan island of Giglio, before it went down.

In Delhi, the foreign ministry said it has set up control rooms to deal with enquiries about the Indians on board the ship.

"Of the 202 crew members, 201 have been traced and are safe. One person is missing. We are co-ordinating with the Italian government and trying to trace the missing crew," MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.

Saha, along with two Indian officials, visited the spot and is coordinating the rescue efforts.

Costa Concordia, was carrying more than 4,200 people.
