A second-year-student of National Law School of India University was allegedly raped by a eight-member gang in the Bangalore campus on Saturday night.

The incident took place when the 21-year-old student was going to her hostel in a car with her friend Nikhil after having dinner at a hotel. They had parked the car near a bush and were talking inside the university campus.

The girl lodged a complaint on Sunday with the Jnanabharathi police, Bangalore West.

In her complaint the girl has said that they were attacked by around eight-member gang in an inebriated state, near the Bangalore University administrative building around 9.30pm.

The gang members allegedly thrashed Nikil and damaged his car, before dragging her to an isolated place where she was allegedly raped by the miscreants.

Nikhil is an employee with IBM and became friend with the student after they were linked through a social networking site two weeks ago.

They had met on Saturday and had gone out for the first time, said deputy commissioner of police (Bangalore West) SN Sidramappa.

The girl in her complaint has also alleged that the miscreants snatched her mobile phone. However, before fleeing from the spot, they thrust the phone in her hands, she said in the complaint.

After some time, girl and Nikhil were guided to the nearby police by some passersby. The police searched the campus for couple of hours, but in vain.

DCP said that the girl has undergone medical tests and the police are waiting for the medical reports.
