Until morning of August 1, Bhopal should have received 459.1mm of rainfall and thus the received rainfall is as much as 103% of the expected rainfall.

In the month of June this year, 459.5mm rainfall was received, while in July 475mm of rainfall was received.

Normally in July 376mm of rainfall is recorded.

The director of Regional Meteorological Centre, DP Dubey said that the met office said that according to the available records since year 1991, the capital has never received so much of rainfall cumulatively in months of June and July, thus the rainfall has broken at least 22-year-old rain record.

On Thursday too, some spells of rainfall were received in the city, especially during morning and evening hours while during daytime, brief periods of sunlight were experienced. During these sunny intervals, the conditions became quite humid.

The rain spell during evening was quite heavy in some areas.

The met office said that since the weather system was present in vicinity of Bhopal (at present over Narsinghpur and Jabalpur); it caused the conditions to become erratic in capital involving spells of rain and sunny weather.

During the last 24 hours until 8.30am on Thursday, Bhopal airport received 45.4mm of rainfall; while by 5.30pm another 0.5mm rainfall was recorded.

In Bhopal City (Arera Hills observatory), 26.7mm of rainfall was received by 8.30am while another 1.4mm was received by 5.30pm.

The met office has predicted few spells of rainfall on Friday too, though very heavy showers might not be received.
