The doctor couple against whom a case was registered for death of a patient at their nursing home, has been arrested and sent to the jail, said police on Tuesday.
Police said that Dr Ajit Saluja and Dr Kavita Saluja, were arrested as they were booked in a non-bailable case that was registered earlier this year. A woman Sandhya had died in their nursing home last year.
An inquiry had found that the doctors were conducting the operation without the registration required for the particular surgery. Hence, they were booked under the relevant sections of Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act a few months ago.
Finally, they were arrested and sent to jail. The death had occurred on April 28 last year. Sandhya, 32, was brought to their clinic at Chhola. As her condition didn’t improve, she was shifted to their nursing home at Putlighar.
Here she died. Her family members alleged that after an injection, her condition had suddenly deteriorated.
The deceased’s kin had staged a protest after the death. The police had a tough time controlling the angry residents.
On the complaint of Sandhya’s husband, Shankarlal Sahu, the police had begun investigation. The clinic didn’t have the requisite registration for operation.
The CMHO-led committee had given its report.
