Congress workers tear gassed in Sagar

The police lobbed teargas shell on agitating Congressmen who were on way to show black flags to the CM at Khel Parisar ground here on Wednesday.


The Congress workers, along with the local leaders, had gathered in large number at Teen Batti and marched towards Khel Parisar where the CM was launching Atal Jyoti Abhiyan.

The administration had made elaborate security arrangements and police had barricaded the approach roach towards the programme venue. As the rally reached near Teen Madia area, they were stopped by police barricades.

The Congressmen tried to break the barricades but the police stopped them. Meanwhile stone pelting began and police burst tear gas shells to disburse the crowd. A policeman and a Congress leader Madhusudan Silakari were injured.

Some Congress members, including city president Rekha Choudary and Swadesh Jain, dodged the police and reached in front of Municipal Corporation office where they were arrested. District Congress president Hera Singh condemned the police action and said it was done at the behest of BJP leaders.
