In fact, the self-styled godman has been in the eye of controversies in the state for years.

In 2008, two kids -Vedant and Ramkrishna - studying at the Chhindwara Ashram died under mysterious circumstances.

Though investigation later revealed that it was a teenaged student who was involved in the killings, the incident caused widespread outrage and the motive behind the double murder was never explained.

Mystery also shrouded the death of Sandhya, a teacher at the ashram.

Earlier this year, a devotee accused the self-styled godman of kicking him, when he went to seek the godman’s blessings.

The incident had occurred in neighbouring Vidisha.

The complainant, Aman Singh, had been so upset with the incident that he had approached the police.

Further, Asaram Bapu had allegedly used foul language against a volunteer during a public programme in Indore last year.

The volunteer was offering water to other devotees when the spiritual leader got enraged and used foul language against him.

The incident was caught on television cameras. He was also accused of illegally grabbing land in in Ratlam.

In January, Dileep Pachori, resident of Jabalpur lodged a complaint with the police accusing Asaram and his disciples of poisoning his 24-year- old son Rahul Pachauri during a ‘satsang’ held at Jabalpur, which led to his death.

However, Jabalpur police found no criminal involvement of Asaram and his disciples in the incident.

Talking to the HT on Wednesday, superintendent of police Jabalpur Harinarayanchari Mishra said the investigation was over and no criminal element was found in the death of Rahul Pachori.

The police investigation report has been sent to the sub- divisional magistrate for further action, he said.
