Cops gear up for New Year eve

Stern action would be taken against drunken revellers and those driving speedily on the eve of New Year in the state capital. The police have announced that any attempt to show acrobatics on bikes, would invite penal action.


The checking would be conducted at 26 spots in the state capital on Monday. In fact, police will be deployed at these places from morning till well past midnight. During this period, vehicle riders and motorists, who will be found driving speedily or causing inconvenience to others, would be booked.

Police officials say that indecent behaviour would not be tolerated. The ongoing drive against eve teasers would also continue. At the main markets, hotels and places where major parties are being organised, police will keep an eye.

The traffic police said that the checking would begin from 8 am till midnight and even thereafter. Policemen will be specially posted as Retghat, Karbala, Lalghati, Board Office, Chetak Bridge, Piplani Petrol Pump, Bhadbhada Square, Karod et al. The stoppers would be kept at all these spots and policemen will remain present throughout the day.

Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Vijay Yadav said that steps are being taken to check drunken driving and ruckus on the streets. He said that the police would act tough on those involved in rowdy behaviour.

The traffic wing officers have appealed to the citizens to avoid driving under the influence of liquor so as to have safe New Year celebration. The police personnel will conduct patrolling throughout the city. Action will also be taken if liquor is served at eateries without licence for the same.

Besides, the use of loudspeakers at New Year parties beyond the prescribed limit set by Supreme Court, would lead to action. Penalty will be slapped wherever three persons are found riding a two-wheeler. In all, over 1,000 policemen will be present on the streets to check hooliganism.
