Rails were laden over the train and the rails and the labourers fell off the train. Many of the iron rails fell upon the labourers and crushed them.

The incident took place near Khurai at around 2:30pm on Wednesday.

The surviving gangmen traveling in the train have blamed the railway authorities for being callous in coupling the coaches.

The train was heading towards Sumeri station (9km ahead of Khurai). The accident took place at gate no. 8 near Khurai station when coupling connecting engine with the rest of the train broke and both the rails kept in the open coaches and gangmen travelling in the train fell off the train.

There were more than 50 labourers on the train, who were sitting on the rails kept in the coaches.

Four of the labourers got crushed under the rails and died on the spot.

One of the gangmen could not be extricated from beneath the rails for more than an hour.

Gangmen Bajesh Lodhi and Dinesh Sharma have accused the officials of railway and Public Works Department (PWD) for the accident.

They said that the person, who did the coupling, was drunk but officials present at the spot allowed him to carry out coupling.

A team of emergency train officials and doctors reached the spot after one hour of the accident.

The station superintendent of Khurai, BK Verma said, “Driver of the train, Ramkishan Meena, left the railway station at 2:08 pm for EUR Sumreri. The accident took place at 2:10 pm.”
