Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members of legislative assembly (MLAs) during a legislator party meet at his residence on Monday asked them to aggressively counter charges levelled by the Congress party during the ongoing assembly session.

Sources said the CM told the MLAs that in case Congress party MLAs made accusations against the government or individuals, they should not listen quietly and instead stand up and defend the party.

He said the Congress had earlier levelled charges against him in the dumper case, which were rejected, and was likely to make personal allegations again.

Chouhan asked the MLAs to dig out charges of corruption against Congress leaders from their respective areas and the government would look into them.

The BJP state president Narendra Singh Tomar who was present at the meeting asked the MLAs to be careful about their behaviour. He said in the age of mobile phones it was very easy for anyone to make a video in an attempt to derive political mileage out of it.

Chouhan’s stand of asking the MLAs to defend the government aggressively and also to counterattack is being perceived as being different from his usual style of non-confrontation.

The party watchers said the change in strategy was because of the attacks the party had faced recently and was likely to face in the coming days in the assembly.
