Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his wife Sadhna Singh have served a legal notice on leader Opposition Ajay Singh for the latter's remarks against Sadhna Singh.
The notice dated June 18, 2013 has been served through a Delhi based legal firm LexCounsel.
During the Congress' Parivartan Yatra, Ajay Singh on June 4 had reportedly in a public meeting at Khargone dubbed Sadhna Singh as a currency note counting machine and held her responsible for illegal mining in the state.
Earlier, in a public meeting at Sagar on May 9 he held Sadhna Singh responsible for sale of Gutka pouches in the state at high prices.
This is the first for them against anybody since Chouhan assumed office on November 29, 2005.
Through the six-page legal notice the couple expects Ajay Singh to publically and unconditionally withdraw all his allegations within 7 days of receipt of the notice.
If Singh fails to do so, they shall take appropriate civil and/or criminal action against for his making defamatory statements.
At Khargone meeting Ajay Singh had reportedly said, "Shivraj Singh ji ne sarvajanik jeevan me avivahit rahne ka sanklap liya tha. Phir rajniti me chamkate hi ve Sadhna Singh ke roop me note ginane ki machine laaye (Shivraj Singh Chouhan had resolved to remain bachelor in his public life but as he shone in the political arena he brought a currency note counting machine in Sadhna Singh)."
"We write to communicate and make you aware of the irreparable reputational loss, trauma and agony that your recent unsubstantiated and false statements have caused to our clients and their family members, and the consequences which would ensue should you fail to take corrective actions in lieu of your grave, unsubstantiated and false allegations against our clients, strictly in accordance with the notice", says the notice a copy of which is available with the Hindustan Times.
The notice further says, "You have knowingly and intentionally raised false and baseless allegations of corruption against Mrs Sadhna Singh in the presence of media/members of general public only for the reason that she is wife of Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh. It is evident that you intend to defame and cause harm and damage to the reputation and goodwill of Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan by raising false and unsubstantiated allegations against him as well as his wife/family members."
The notice says Chouhan and his wife were deeply pained by the allegations which are not only false and concocted they have also been meticulously levelled to cause maximum mental trauma to them and their family members.
While as political rivals they can to some extent attempt to understand 'your unfortunate political compulsions of constantly and desperately trying gain the lost political ground, our clients are deeply shocked and pained as they did not expect you to stoop to the present level where you would not desist from making allegations which you know are false, baseless and concocted'.
