Just days before chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan invites Muslims for Roza Iftar party at his residence, Coordination Committee for Indian Muslims has raised questions over the CM’s secular credentials.

President of MP unit of the committee, Sajid Siddiqui and secretary Masood Ahmad Khan accused Chouhan of going against the spirit of the Constitution by introducing Surya Namaskar, Vande Matram, Yoga and Gita in government schools--much against the sentiments of minorities.

Submitting a memorandum, the committee asked considering that the CM has called for panchayats of various groups and showered a plethora of schemes for their welfare then what is stopping him from calling a panchayat for Muslims.

Siddiqui also asked why there is an undeclared ban on construction of mosques in the state. Permission for constructing new mosques is not being given by the state administration.

The CM had set aside Sachchar committee’s recommendations but he failed to start any welfare schemes for upliftment of Muslims.

If land could be made available for Buddhist university and Hindi university then why is land not being allotted for MP chapter of Aligarh Muslim University, asked Masood Khan.

There is a severe crunch of Urdu teachers but the government has not recruited a single Urdu teacher in last 10 years. Budget of Madarsa board has also not been increased.

Opposing religious conversion bill, he said the BJP government discriminates against Muslim- dominated localities and no development work is carried out in these localities.

The CM is expected to call Muslims for Iftar in the coming days.
