A married couple was found dead near village Fali, under Khudel police station, near here on Friday morning. The couple was identified as Sameer Jamindar (26) and his wife Shaili (24). Police claimed that the couple committed suicide and added that a countrymade pistol was found at the scene. They were still uncertain about the motive, but claimed that the injuries were 'self-inflicted'.
The couple hailed from Mandleshwar (Khargone) and were living here at Malhar Martand Chowk. The couple, married for the last eight years, had an eight-year- old son Soumya. Sameer's mother Chitra was also in the city for the last seven days, but was residing in a one-room accommodation at Shankar Bagh.
On Thursday, the couple left home at around 4.30 pm for buying a birthday cake for Chitra (Sameer's mother) leaving behind their son. At around 10pm, Chitra called them up and they said they are on the way home. However, they didn't return the whole night. In the morning, Chitra received the news of the couple's death from a commuter, who called her up from the couple's mobile phone.
According to the family members, Sameer was a priest (Pandit) and was engaged in performing religious rituals. About a year ago, he started his own artificial jewellery shop at Tilakpath area, Rambagh.
Sameer belongs to a well-todo priest family of Khargone and the family also owns a temple in the district. "In last few months, he was perturbed over some monetary transactions related to financing of vehicles. I saw him getting disturbed after some of the calls," said Amol Jamindar, Sameer's elder brother.
Amol last met his brother on Sunday. "He looked happy last Sunday. We had dinner and discussed many things. I had even assured him of financial help because we have a huge property and land holdings in Khargone but Sameer had declined the offer," Amol said. Meanwhile, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) found gunpowder mark on Sameer’s fingers giving rise to the conjecture that he might have first shot his wife and then himself.
SP (west) AS Kushwah said, “As per preliminary investigation, it seems to be a suicide case and there could be many reason behind it. The couple owned a shop so it could be possible that they had debt on them.”
Khudel police sent bodies for post-mortem after performing panchnama. Police recovered one motorcycle, one pistol and bike registration papers from a bag from which they identified the dead.
