Rs. 89 crore recovered from power defaulters

Power distribution companies of the state have recovered Rs. 89 crore from consumers with irregular power connections. More than 47,000 electricity connections of high and low-tension consumers have been checked in the state in various areas till the end of September during financial year 2012-13.

Irregularities were detected in 1,11,782 connections and amount of around Rs. 88 crore has been recovered in these cases. During the period, 33,389 cases of power theft or irregularities were filed in special courts, said a release from electricity department.

Madhya Pradesh Eastern Region Power Distribution Company checked 51,146 connections in Jabalpur, Rewa and Sagar and detected irregularities or power thefts in 20,991 connections. A sum of more than Rs. 11 crore was recovered from the defaulters. The company filed cases of power theft or irregularities in special courts.

The Madhya Pradesh Western Region Power Distribution Company checked 3,57,970 connections in Indore and Ujjain areas and detected irregularities and power thefts in 66,307 connections. A sum of Rs. more than Rs. 59 crore was recovered from the erring consumers. The company filed 15,819 cases of power theft or irregularities in courts.

The Madhya Pradesh Central Region Power Distribution Company checked 70,331 connections in Bhopal and Gwalior areas and detected irregularities or power thefts in 24,484 connections. A sum of more than Rs. 18 crore was recovered from the guilty consumers. The company filed 13,153 cases of power theft or irregularities in special courts.
