Fraudsters allegedly cheated dozens of youths by promising them jobs with the railways. Most of the victims paid Rs. 3 lakh each and were asked to wait for the hiring letter at their respective homes.
But when the promise didn’t materialise, they realised that they had been tricked. One of the victims, Ravikant ( 25), resident of Chhatarpur, complained to the police that he first paid an installment of Rs. 50,000. Later he was taken to Asansol for a medical training camp.
Apparently, it was a fake camp though many other aspirants were taken there with the same promise. After the camp, they were charged Rs. 2.5 lakh each, and told that they have been selected. The camp was held in such a manner that most of them got convinced that they had indeed been recruited.
However, the offer letter didn’t arrive. Ravikant completed his engineering degree from a college in Bhopal. It was during his stay here in 2010, that he got duped. The complainant said Vinod Singh, resident of Patna, was the mastermind behind the scheme.
