The chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in Chhatarpur on Tuesday that the water of state rivers in the district is being used by the farmers of Uttar Pradesh. He said this while addressing a public meeting at Rajnagar tehsil of the district.
The CM said, “Water of our rivers is first for people of our state and then it can be used by other states. In chhatarpur there are dams which store large quantity of water but due to agreements executed by previous Congress government, the major portion of water is used by UP farmers. We will stop it in future and carry out canal irrigation projects.”
The CM was in Chhatarpur to inaugurate various development and welfare projects, including Left Bariyarpur Canal Irrigation project which will irrigate 43,850 hectares.
The CM said, “Our vision is to make the state’s farm sector as advanced and progressive as Punjab’s by 2021. Land under irrigation was earlier only 43,000 hectares but now it is 1,85,000 hectares and till 2020 about 5 lakh hectare area will be under irrigation.”
