Wall collapse kills 9

Nine persons were killed and 18 others were critically injured after a wall of an under construction warehouse collapsed at National Highway No 7 near Jeula gram panchayat adjoining Rewa on Monday afternoon.


District collector Shiv Narayan Rupla said the warehouse belongs to Mahendra Shukla, brother of Madhya Pradesh minister for energy and mining resources Rajendra Shukla.

All persons killed and injured have been identified as labourers engaged in the construction of the massive wall. The incident took place due to substandard construction as the wall was being constructed in a hurry.

According to the district administration, more than a hundred labourers were engaged in the construction work when the wall collapsed trapping the labourers under the debris. Nine dead bodies were taken out with massive efforts.

The injured labourers have been rushed to the Sanjay Gandhi district hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

After the incident, energy and mineral resources minister Rajendra Shukla, MLA Nagendra Singh Gurh, MLA Ramgarib Kol and mayor Shivendra Singh visited the accident site along with members of the district administration.

The administration announced compensation of Rs. 25,000 to the injured and Rs. 1 lakh to relatives of the deceased.
