An eight-year-old child was allegedly raped by her tutor and a young girl's throat was slit when she resisted a rape bid, in two adjacent districts of north Bihar.

The Class 4 student was allegedly raped by her tutor at her home in Sitamarhi on Saturday. "The man took advantage of the child when her parents were away. An FIR was lodged and the accused has been arrested," Sitamarhi SP Pankaj Kumar Sinha told HT on Wednesday.

In another incident, in neighbouring Muzaffarpur district, a 20-year-old girl foiled a rape attempt by two auto drivers.

Frustrated assailants, however, slit the girl's throat and threw her by the wayside. She was found unconscious at a secluded place in Sadatpur locality, early Wednesday. The girl was admitted to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital where she is battling for her life.

The Muzaffarpur SSP could not be reached for his comments while Dy SP Arvind Gupta feigned ignorance about the incident. The victim said she had gone to Brahmapur colony on Tuesday to meet the man she was seeing, "but he rejected me." Dejected she went to the bus stand where she boarded the auto-rickshaw for home.
