A letter warning about 'massive terrorist attacks in Chennai' was handed over to the city Police Commissioner Letika Saran by the Tamil Nadu BJP President L Ganesan on Saturday.

The anonymous letter was received at the BJP head quarters 'Kamalalyam' in Chennai on Friday, Ganesan said.

Ganesan said that the person who sent the letter, claiming to be a member of a 'Save City Group', had said in the letter that the globally banned terrorist outfit Al-Qaeda was planning to attack major buildings and other vital installations in the city, including Kamalalayam.

"The writer of the letter has not issued any direct threat but has said that they had information about the attacks. Since we wanted to alert the police immediately, we handed over the letter to Letika Saran today," he said.

When contacted, Letika Saran assured that proper action would be initiated on the matter.
