Rajya Sabha MP Trichy Siva will go to Kathmandu, along with relatives of the eight real estate developers killed in the Nepal plane crash, to bring back the bodies. Siva told Hindustan Times on Sunday the Indian embassy staff in Kathmandu had assured cooperation. “We hope to reach
Kathmandu by late afternoon on Monday,” the Rajya Sabha member said.

Gloom descended on Tiruchirapalli town after news about the accident was flashed on television.

Shell-shocked relatives and colleagues of the deceased spent the day running from one official to another and to the airport to figure out the next course of action.

The builders had gone to New Delhi to attend a conference and from there to Nepal to see Mount Everest.

S Sankaran, joint treasurer, Builders Association of India, Tiruchirapalli chapter, said: “It is a tragic accident. Their wives, sons and daughters are in a state of shock and at the moment the priority is to get their bodies retrieved from Nepal for cremation. We are all helping the family members in that,” he said.

All the eight builders – MV Maruthachalam, M Mani Maran, VM Kanakasabesan, AK Krishnan, RM Meenatchi Sundaram, K Thiyagarajan, T Dhana Shekharan and Kattoor Mahalingam – were office-bearers and members of the association.

Anand, son of Maruthachalam, was among those who met collector Jaishree Muralidharan and sought government help. Based on a representation from the association, the collector requested the Tamil Nadu government to facilitate the matter.
