Raja meets Jaya, files papers for RS seat from TN

Sitting Rajya Sabha Member and CPI national secretary D Raja, who was the Left Parties' candidate for the June 27 biennial polls to the Upper House of Parliament from Tamil Nadu, on Monday filed his nomination papers.

Mr Raja, accompanied by senior party leaders, filed the papers before legislative assembly secretary and returning oficer AMP Jamaludeen at the State Secretariat.

Today is the last date for filing of nominations.

Before filing his papers, Mr Raja called on AIADMK supremo and chief minister J Jayalalithaa and sought her party's support for his candidature.

Mr Raja, who has the backing of the CPI(M), was the seventh candidate to file his papers for the elections to be held to fill up six seats that would fall vacant next month.
