The Chhattisgarh High Court on Thursday rejected the bail plea of three Chinese technocrats who were sent to jail in connection with the collapse of under-construction chimney that killed 41 workers in Korba, Chhattisgarh last September. A single bench of Justice Dhirendra Mishra after
hearing the arguments refused to grant the bail. The public prosecutor appearing in the case on behalf of the state government, DK Gwalre told Hindustan Times that the court had cited the gravity of offence and the negligence of the Chinese engineers, which led to fatal consequences killing many as the ground to reject the bail.

The techies, arrested on January 11, are the employees of a Chinese firm Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation (Sepco), which was given the contract of 1200 MW power project of Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (Balco) in Korba district of Chhattisgarh.

Bagging the contract from Balco, the Sepco assigned the task to Gannon Dunkerley & Company Limited (GDCL) for construction of a 275-metre chimney for the power plant.
