Prove your mettle to get a party ticket is the BJP's new poll mantra.
The Delhi unit of the party is on a talent hunt with leaders saying that all candidates vying for a ticket are required to assemble at its Pandit Pant Marg office on Thursday to prove their mettle.
According to sources, a dinner has been organised by Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel on Thursday, inviting all workers to present their case as to why they should be given a ticket.
"Nearly 1,200 workers have been invited for an important meeting, which will be followed by dinner. The aspirants will get an opportunity to prove their popularity in the community and the area from where they are seeking a ticket. The idea is to ensure everyone gets a fair chance to voice their case," said a source.
Sources further said that the aspirants have been asked to carry a report of the work they have done in the past few months in their area and what they intend to do in the coming few months keeping the elections in mind. Sources further said all the 1,200 party workers have been asked to ensure that they are able to mobilise crowds for the Narendra Modi rally. "The party has to ensure that the rally is a huge success and hence these workers will also be tested according to the number of people they are able to attract to the rally," said a senior BJP leader.
"On Tuesday, Delhi poll in-charge Nitin Gadkari ji had made it clear that winnable and honest candidates will be preferred. He had also said that till the final selections are done, every worker had the right to voice their concern and case. This meeting is a step in that direction as only 70 people can be given tickets to contest the elections," said a senior BJP official.
The party on Wednesday said they will come out with a comprehensive list of the candidates for the elections after the September 29 rally which is to be addressed by their prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi at north Delhi's Rohini.
"All the party functionaries are working overtime to make the September 29 rally a historic success, which is currently our main focus. We will come out with our list of candidates for the coming assembly polls after the rally," said a leader
Delhi BJP on Wednesday said that the formal launch of the preparations for the Modi rally will take place on Thursday at 11am at the Swarna Jayanti Park, and several senior members of the party will grace the occasion.
Former Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta, senior party members, and top Delhi Police officers and senior traffic police officers inspected the venue on Wednesday to take stock of the security and traffic arrangements.
