A new mobile phone application will provide you real-time information on bus routes, bus stops, location of bus stops, location of buses on Google map and the estimated time of arrival of buses.

Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System (DIMTS), the agency that provides services consultancy to the Delhi government's transport department, has launched the new app - currently available only for orange Delhi Transit buses, called cluster buses.

Officials said it will soon cover DTC buses as well.

Their trip planner feature - which will provide you all the possible bus routes between two points in Delhi - will include DTC routes as well.

"The Delhi transit bus info application is available both on the web and on android-based devices. Bus passengers can either go on to the DIMTS website www.dimts.in and click on 'bus information for orange-coloured Delhi Transit buses' or view the application on the beta version 'Delhi transit bus info' which can be downloaded from Google Play Store," a DIMTS official said.

"The application will be available on other platforms such as iOS, Blackberry and Symbian. It will turn the entire experience of a bus journey easier and faster," the official added.

While the Delhi government has tried to strengthen the public transport in Delhi by adding new buses to the Delhi Transport Corporation and has also added corporate-run buses under the cluster scheme, the service is still far from reliable.

"We have recently tried to rationalise the bus routes on the basis of a survey we carried out. The pilot project is on and we will bring the remaining bus routes under route rationalisation. This application will further help commuters to plan their journey smoothly," said a transport department official.
