Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) has started an emergency restoration system (ERS) to ensure uninterrupted power supply in the event of any damage to transmission lines due to thunderstorms.

"In the new system, we erect a single tower and the transmission lines are passed through this tower till the time the main tower is repaired,'' said a senior official.

On June 6, a 220KV tower of Bawana-Rohini Circuit I and II had collapsed due to strong winds, affecting supply to some of the north Delhi colonies.

The single tower structure of emergency restoration system does not need any foundation because it is erected on a heavy metal base. The tower is kept vertical with supporting wires and all the safety precautions such as clearance from ground are observed.

"With the introduction of this system, Delhi Transco Limited will, in an unforeseen emergency, be able to restore power in the shortest possible time" said Shakti Sinha CMD, Delhi Transco.
