A 23-year-old Indian was killed and six injured Friday as armed Islamists carried out a deadly Mumbai-style terror attack in Nigeria’s second largest city Kano, leaving 166 people dead. Kevalkumar Kalidas Rajput, 23, who hailed from Ranivav extension in Gujarat's Dahod district, worked
for a chemical firm, Relchem, since March 2011, the Indian high commission in Nigeria said.

“Kevalkumar was my youngest son…. He had gone there especially for us,” said Kalidas Rajput from Dahod. He said the family had approached the Centre, state government and Indian embassy for bringing back his son’s body.

Kevalkumar and his two Nepalese colleagues were killed when their car apparently entered a scene of hostilities, the mission said.

The injured six Indians, two of them children, suffered shrapnel wounds and are hospitalised.

Boko Haram militants split into groups and carried out bombings and gun attacks.

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation and largest oil producer, is roughly divided between a mainly Muslim north and predominantly Christian south.

Boko Haram, which colloquially translates into western education is sin, wants Sharia to be imposed in the country and has ties with al Qaeda.
