Congress MP from Gujarat Vitthal Radadia was booked under the arms act after he brandished a gun and threatened employees of a toll plaza at Karjan near Vadodara on Thursday night after an attendant asked to see his original identity card.

Radadia defended his act, saying the attendant had “misbehaved” with him.

“All MPs are exempted from paying toll tax anywhere in the country. My driver told the operator but he would not allow the car to move,” he said.

Radadia also added that over a dozen people armed with sticks had surrounded his car, forcing him to take out the gun.

The FIR was filed by Vadodara rural police on the basis of the CCTV footage, following a complaint by the manager of the private company collecting toll tax.

Radadia a senior politician from Saurashtra region is one of the few mass leaders of the Congress party in the area.

Coming at a time when the state goes to the polls in December, the incident left the opposition party embarrassed.

“Images which are being shown on TV are disturbing undoubtedly. We have asked the Gujarat PCC to send us a detailed report,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters in Delhi.
