MLAs elect Modi as leader; oath ceremony today

Following the third consecutive victory in the assembly polls, Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi was elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party on Tuesday.

The party’s central observer Arun Jaitley presided over the meeting of the newly elected members of the saffron party at the state capital Gandhinagar.

Modi will be sworn-in as the chief minister on Wednesday in a grand ceremony to be attended by top BJP leaders, LK Advani, Arun Jaitley and CMs of all BJP-ruled states.

Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray would also attend the function.

Some senior leaders will be sworn-in with Modi while other ministers will take oath at a separate ceremony.
