A 29-year-old woman and mother of three was allegedly strangulated to death by her in-laws for dowry at her Shivpuri residence, the police said on Tuesday.

According to the police, the victim’s body was found hanging on Monday evening. Her brother on Wednesday alleged that she was killed by her in-laws. The complainant said that her sister was physically challenged and could not hang herself.

The deceased was identified as Chanchal Kaushik.

“My sister was physically challenged and she could not hang herself. Her in-laws had earlier also harassed her and demanded dowry. She was not happy and Monday morning she called up home and was normal. There was no reason she would leave her children and commit suicide,” said the victim’s brother Punit Vashishta.

Station house officer of City police station said, “We have not received any complaint so far. The family had come to the police station and sought some time to decide on filing the complaint.”

The family members, however, said they could not lodge an FIR because the police had refused to hand them over the post-mortem report.

In another incident, a 45-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan on Tuesday night at his residence at Sushant Lok-1.

The police have recovered a suicide note from the spot and handed over the body to the family after post-mortem.
