Relief is in sight for thousands of shoppers who throng city markets from parking mafia. The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has prepared the estimates for 31 parking sites in New Gurgaon. Tenders for the same will be floated by the end of this month.

For contractors, selected through a bidding process, Huda has made it mandatory to install CCTV cameras at the parking sites close to malls, shopping centres, hospitals etc.

"CCTV cameras have to be installed at the parking sites by contractors chosen through the bidding process. The bids are likely to be opened later this week. This provision was missing in the previous estimates," said a senior Huda official, adding that all the new parking sites are likely to be opened to the public from January 1.

Huda officials are of the view that proper surveillance is not possible without CCTV cameras. "CCTV cameras make the surveillance job easier for both Huda and police," said the official. The official said Huda had also introduced another change.

"Now, one company can apply for more than one parking or as many parking sites as per their wish. Earlier, it was only one company-one site," he added.

"Besides, the estate officer-2 has been asked by Huda administrator Praveen Kumar to make the bidding language Hindi and advertise the same in all daily newspapers," said the official.

At present, only two authorised parking sites are available in New Gurgaon due to which, people have to park their vehicles in parking lots controlled by the mafia.
