A 51-year-old security guard was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl and threatening her with dire consequences.
According to the police, accused Shiv Shankar, a native of Ballia (Uttar Pradesh), lived in a rented accommodation along with his son in Kadipur village and worked as a guard in IDBL Apartments in Sector 10.
The incident took place last Wednesday when the girl's parents were away for work and she was playing alone at home.
Shankar allegedly took the victim to his room and raped her. The minor narrated her plight to her parents in the evening when they returned but they kept mum fearing social stigma.
Persuaded by a neighbour, the girl's father complained to the police on Sunday night and the accused was arrested from his house.
Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, the victim's father also works as a security guard while his wife is a domestic help.
Medical examination of the victim has confirmed rape.
Deputy commissioner of police (west) Surinder Pal said, "We have arrested the accused. He lived with his son who worked in a private company but was away for work at the time of the incident."
