The residents seem to have caught in the crossfire as the political rivalry between the Gurgaon MP and Haryana chief minister come to the centre stage, pushing development agenda on the back seat.

Miffed at not being called for Sunday’s rally of chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda at Bawal, local MP Rao Inderjit Singh said he will hold a separate rally at Pataudi on March 3.

“I am holding this rally to highlight the discrimination meted out to south Haryana region by the present state government at the cost of giving preferential treatment to CM’s own constituency Rohtak and areas like Sonepat,” Singh told HT.

The March 3 rally will be the first public meeting to be hold by the MP to underline his disappointment with his own party’s government.

Asked if it will not hamper the congress’s prospect in the 2014 assembly elections in Haryana, the MP said, “I am a native of Bawal. If they have not cared to take me on board for Sunday’s rally which happened at Bawal, it only means that they do not want to listen to me.”

Gurgaon alone contributes 55% of the total revenue to the state exchequer. “Who will pick up the issues of my constituents, if not me?” Singh asked.

Meanwhile, the chief minister at his rally made veiled but scathing attacks on the member of Parliament, saying that he is “responsible for the development of the area and not of any individual”.

Singh, on the other hand, said, “I have evidences to prove my accusation. RTI replies by the state government clearly show that in the last seven years, against 1,235 announcements of public schemes in Rohtak, there has been only 69 such announcement for the development of Gurgaon.”

The legislator has been openly criticizing the Hooda government, sometimes, even from shared dais during public rallies and functions.
