The city police busted a betting racket over the recent India-Australia cricket match and arrested four persons on Sunday from Ashok Vihar Phase III, which comes under the Palam Vihar police station. The police have recovered eight mobile phones, one laptop, one television, calculators,
chargers and Rs50,000 in cash. Officials said there was no kingpin in this case.

The accused, identified as Dinesh Ahuja, Raj Kumar, Deepak and Bhrama Prakash, were nabbed after a police team raided their premises while they were taking bets on calls.

They are residents of Shivaji Nagar, Bhim Nagar, Arjun Nagar and Wazirabad respectively.

"The racket had been functioning for a long time. We got a tip-off about the activities and conducted a raid to arrest the accused. We are interrogating the four men to get more information about clients too," said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (crime), Gurgaon police.

Since most business depended on cell phones, police officials check the phone records to find out if there are more people involved in the racket. According to police sources, such activity is rampant in Gurgaon and the police have arrested many persons in such betting rackets earlier.
